Cord strips

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cord stripes , also known as microstrips or cording, are printing errors that occur in wet offset printing and are caused by uneven distribution of dampening solution on the printing plate .

Especially in the film dampening system , which is often used in offset printing machines , wave-like stripes occur in the circumferential direction at certain speeds , which can be observed directly on the dampening unit rollers . The moist film transferred to the printing plate is no longer uniform, which, depending on the subject , can be seen as light stripes in the print image.

By using additives such as isopropyl alcohol or chemical fountain solution additives , the speed range in which this effect occurs can be shifted.
