Corneometry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Corneometry is a common measurement method for determining skin moisture . A capacitive sensor is used to determine the dielectric constant of the top skin layers. Since this depends on the water content, the measured value is a measure of skin moisture. The term corneometry is derived from the registered brand name corneometer . Under this name, the first measuring instrument for skin moisture was brought onto the market in 1979. Since the corneometer was the first commercially available instrument for determining skin moisture, the term corneometry for measurements of skin moisture, also with other methods, has become established in scientific usage.
