The Whelan nunatak is an isolated nunatak in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . In the Athos Range of the Prince Charles Mountains, it rises 8 km northwest of Mount Starlight .
Aerial photographs of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions from 1965 were used for mapping purposes. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it after Ronald F. Whelan, a radio operator on Davis Station in 1964.
