The Athos Range is the northernmost mountain range in the Prince Charles Mountains in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . It extends in an east-west orientation over a length of around 65 kilometers on the northern flank of the Scylla Glacier and consists of a large number of mountain peaks and nunataks .
The Athos Range was first visited in November 1955 by participants of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Béchervaise (1910-1998). Further exploratory marches into the region took place from 1956 to 1957. The mountain range is named after one of the three main characters from Alexandre Dumas ' novel The Three Musketeers . The name Moonlight Range proposed by the Australian mountaineer William Gordon Bewsher (1924–2012) did not prevail.
