Correctio

A correctio ( Latin “correction”, from Latin corrigere - “straighten, correct”) is a rhetorical stylistic device in which the speaker corrects himself. Most often it replaces a weaker expression with a more meaningful one.

Examples

"We must therefore raise our voices urgently - not urgently, but imploringly."

"He drinks ... what do I say: He drinks!"

"He was of a beautiful, extraordinarily beautiful figure."

"Get out of here, get out of here quickly!"
