Sylpheed is a free e-mail program and newsreader for Unix-like and Windows operating systems . It is still being maintained by the first author Hiroyuki Yamamoto ( Japanese 山 本 博 之 , Yamamoto Hiroyuki ).

The priorities of the developers are speed, simple configuration, as much functionality as possible ( e.g. score file and filter) and stability. In support of HTML is deliberately avoided.

The documentation for Sylpheed is created in a separate, multilingual project.

technology

The software uses the GUI toolkit GTK + 2. The core functionality is stored in the LibSylph program library separately from the user interface. Messages are stored in MH data format , the IMAP and POP protocols are supported.

Availability

Sylpheed is distributed as free software also in source code under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). It can be installed directly from the standard package sources in many popular Linux distributions . It is pre-installed as standard equipment in Damn Small Linux , lubuntu and the LXDE spin from Fedora .
