CosmoShop is a modular online shop system that has been developed in Germany since 1999. It is available both as a rental shop and in commercial editions.
The functions of the software can be expanded by installing additional plug-ins . Systems from other providers, such as payment services or merchandise management systems , can be connected via an open API . The system is multi-shop capable, so several subshops can be operated on different domains within one installation.
The original developer is Herbert Reiber, who brought the system to Zaunz Publishing in 1999 (founded in 1997 by Silvan Dolezalek & Peter Hoolmans). In 2001 Herbert Reiber became managing partner. In 2014 Zaunz Publishing GmbH was renamed CosmoShop GmbH because the brand name of the product was much better known and the attribute "Publishing" no longer corresponded to Zaunz's field of activity. CosmoShop GmbH is managed by three managing partners with equal rights: Peter Hoolmans, Herbert Reiber, Silvan Dolezalek.
CosmoShop GmbH is based in Puchheim on the western edge of Munich.
Editions
Rental shop variant (cloud shop)
The CosmoShop is also available as a SAAS (Software as a Service) variant. So that there are no misunderstandings among users, the manufacturer decided on a new brand name. The rental shop was presented at the end of 2010 and is free online shop software for 3 months on the same technical basis as the paid editions. The software is then chargeable.
The manufacturer does not offer any support for the free start-up phase, but a wiki and a forum are available. The rental shop is not restricted in terms of functionality and can manage any number of categories, articles and customers. An upgrade to the paid editions is possible. The rental shop can be expanded with free and paid plug-ins.
Stand alone variant: CosmoShop
The commercial edition is installed on its own web server or rented web space. This offers them the advantage of having individual programming carried out. It is also possible to operate a staging environment for test purposes and deployment .
Promotion Shop Edition
The branch software specially developed for the merchandising industry with special modules, which are mainly used in this sector. For example, a budget management, cost center management , proof of obligation form, SSO (Single Sign On), SAP OCI interface , and much more.
Extensions
There are around 50 plug-ins for CosmoShop, including a. from the areas of administration, evaluations, languages, advertising and marketing as well as template and design. There are also interfaces to around 10 payment service providers and various merchandise management systems. It is not possible to create your own plug-ins.
With the integrated CosmoFaktura, CosmoShop offers the possibility of creating invoices and delivery notes yourself; However, functions such as purchasing or financial accounting are not integrated. Therefore, interfaces to various merchandise management systems are offered.

CosmoShop is developed in the Perl programming language . The basis is its own framework. A separate template management was integrated. As a database relational is MySQL database needed.
