Cottonwood Baptist Church (Scurry)

The Cottonwood Baptist Church is a Baptist church in the area of ​​the east Texas city of Scurry .

history

The parish was formed in 1880. The first pastor was the Reverend AMK Sowell. The services initially took place in a small log house. CL Tippett and JW Swayze donated the land to the community to build it. Other faith communities in the area and the local school also use the building. In 1903 a new church building was constructed to house the Baptist congregation and the school.

The church that is still preserved today dates from 1916. It is also on land that was donated by the founder, Tippett. Homecoming events have been held there every June since 1936 .
