Creating project
The Creating project (Concepts to Reduce Environmental Impact and Attain Optimal Transport Performance by Inland Navigation) was a European research project. It served the investigation of transports with the focus on identifying land-based flows of goods that can be shifted to inland waterways with little effort .
introduction
It is easy to transport cargo from the sea ports via inland waterways. It is more difficult to shift cargoes from continental Europe , which are almost exclusively transported by road and rail, onto the inland waterways. Increasing traffic flows via the roads, sharply rising fuel prices and growing environmental awareness are increasing the demand for inland waterway transport. The aim of the project was to strengthen inland shipping and to “stimulate transport across the water”. The project team consisted of 27 partners from nine countries and comprised research institutions, government organizations, universities, shipyards and industry organizations of shippers, ship owners and shipbuilders.
Research projects
Studies were carried out on several examples in order to achieve the project objective.
- A new generation of RoRo ships on the Danube
- Transport of biomass
- Transport of bananas, draft of a reefer ship for inland navigation
- Optimization of a chemical tanker for inland shipping
- Cleanest Ship with the inland tanker Victoria as a demonstrator
