Mendiluze stone circle

The cromlech of Mendiluze ( Basque Mendiluze Harrespila ) is located near Opakua near Salvatierra , between Vitoria-Gasteiz and Pamplona , in the Pais Vasco region in the province of Álava in Spain .

The Mendiluze stone circle was discovered in the Sierra de Encia-Álava in 1983 and excavated in 1984 by José Ignacio Vegas Aramburu. The circle has a diameter of about 10.35 m and is made up of four menhirs between 3.2 and 1.2 m high and about 75 small stones. It was dated to around 750 BC. Dated to the Iron Age. A decimated structure, similar to a rectangular stone box, was found containing bones and cremated remains of a human body and accessories.
