Cronk ny Merriu ( German "Hill of the Dead" ) is one of about 20 Promontory forts on the coast of the Isle of Man in Great Britain . It is located in the south on the east side of the island near Santon , overlooking the small natural harbor of Port Grenaugh. It is a small facility from the Iron Age with ramparts and ditches, but it does not have its own water supply and, like many facilities of this type, was unsuitable for military purposes. The location offers good views of the surrounding coast.
Erected around the turn of the times, during the Celtic Iron Age, the complex was used again during the Nordic period from the 8th century. Behind the wall line are the remains of a settlement. The foundations of an almost rectangular building from this period are visible. It has three doors and a central fireplace.
