Cruzeiro (currency)
Cruzeiro ( currency symbol : ₢ ( Unicode 0x20A2); plural: "Cruzeiros") was the name of various currencies in Brazil .
history
The Cruzeiro was introduced in 1942 as part of a currency reform due to the already very high inflation rate at that time and replaced the original real , which had been in use since 1690, at a ratio of 1000 Réis to 1 Cruzeiro.
In 1967 this first Cruzeiro was replaced by the New Cruzeiro (Portuguese Cruzeiro Novo ) at the exchange rate 1000 (old) Cruzeiro = 1 New Cruzeiro, which was renamed Cruzeiro ( ISO code : BRB) in 1970 .
In 1986 the second Cruzeiro was replaced by the Cruzado (ISO code: BRC, conversion: 1000 BRB = 1 BRC).
The Cruzado was followed in 1989 by the New Cruzado (ISO code: BRN, conversion: 1000 BRC = 1 BRN).
In 1990 the Third Cruzeiro (Portuguese: Terceiro Cruzeiro , ISO code: BRE) replaced the New Cruzado in a ratio of 1: 1.
The third Cruzeiro was followed in 1993 by the Cruzeiro Real (ISO code: BRR, conversion: 1000 BRE = 1 BRR), followed by the Real (ISO code: BRL, conversion: 2750 BRR = 1 BRL) followed.
