csrss.exe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

csrss.exe stands for Client / Server Runtime Subsystem and is part of the Windows NT -based operating systems.

In earlier versions of Windows NT, this operating system component was extremely important because, as a Win32 server, it managed the graphical user interface and the graphics device interface, among other things . In Windows NT 4.0 , however, these components were moved to the kernel to speed up the system. Therefore, in modern Windows NT branches, the main task of csrss.exe is the management of the command line and the starting and ending of processes and threads . The csrss.exe is the only system component marked as a "critical process", the unexpected termination of which leads to the immediate crash of the system.
