Customized Applications for Mobile networks Enhanced Logic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Customized Applications for Mobile networks Enhanced Logic (abbreviation: CAMEL ) is a standard for mobile communication networks created by the European Telecommunication Standards Institute .

CAMEL enables extended functions in mobile networks, such as prepaid billing in roaming , i.e. prepaid billing customers can not only make calls in the network of their own mobile phone provider, but also in foreign networks, provided that these networks support at least the same CAMEL standard. This also makes additional functions such as SMS available to prepaid customers. Many other modern functions and services are only made possible by CAMEL.

The CAMEL functionality is provided in the Signaling System 7 (SS7) by the CAMEL Application Part (CAP) . CAP can be found at the height of the Mobile Application Part (MAP) and uses the Transaction Capabilities Application Part (TCAP) and the Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP) for transmission .
