Cytogamy

When cytogamy is a form of self-fertilization. Two unicellular organisms merge, but do not exchange the nucleus. During conjugation by cellular fusion, the process results in the creation of a single cell from complementary mating types. The localized remodeling and dissolution of external protective structures enables the fusion of the plasma membranes and the cytoplasm .
