The Danish Landrace ( Danish : Dansk landrace ) is a breed of pig from Denmark .

Breeding history

The first Danish landrace herd was established in 1896. The first breeding value assessments took place in 1907. The exceptional performance and quality of this breed made Denmark the world champion exporter of bacon and refused to export purebred Danish landrace pigs for many years in order to maintain this position. The registration of the breed is carried out by the State Committee for Pig Breeding and Production (Landsudvalget for Svineavl og Produktion) .

In the meantime, Danish landrace pigs have been exported to many countries, including Germany, Hungary, Albania, Greece, the CIS countries, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, the People's Republic of China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and several African states.
