Dried beans are green pods of kidney beans that have been preserved by drying . They are particularly common in Switzerland and the Palatinate . Dried beans must be soaked for several hours before consuming. They are then sautéed with broth with onions, garlic and spices quenched . Dried beans are often served as an accompaniment to meat dishes such as the Bernese platter .
