DJ Mad Dog (born November 2, 1980 in Rome ; real name Filippo Calcagni ) is an Italian DJ of gabber and hardcore techno . Since 2016 he has been releasing his music under his own label Dogfight Records .

Career

Musical beginnings

Calcagni began his career in 1995 at the age of 15. Together with two friends he founded a group called Hardcore Terrorists , which only released a single EP called Try To Make It Harder in early 1999 . During this time he slowly became one of the most sought-after hardcore DJs in Italy and organized large rave parties in Rome with the help of the "Rome Hardcore Movement". At the age of 17 he made his first appearance at the Qube Club in Rome. In 1998 the biggest hardcore rave of its time took place in Rome, which could record about 3500 visitors. Thanks to his experience at major raves, this has given him and his friends increased attention. In the end he got his own radio show called “Hardcore Nation”, which he hosted together with his MC on Mondo Radio FM.

Solo career

In the summer of 2000 he decided to leave the group and start a solo career. From then on he called himself DJ Mad Dog. He quickly got a contract with Traxtorm Records , which had been founded by The Stunned Guys . In an interview with Ape Magazine , he said that “It all started in 1993 when the scene was very small. It was perfect for us because other DJs like Noize Suppressor and Tommyknocker also had their first appearances during this time. 2000 I had my first appearance in Holland when I released my first own track. I was 16 then, everything was like a game. ”Together with Nico e Tetta , Tommyknocker, The Stunned Guys and Art of Fighters, he was part of the group Traxtorm Gangstaz Allied , who also composed the hymn Disposal Of Outer Power . Calcagni has also appeared with DJs from the gabber scene such as DJ The Producer . In 2006 he performed at A Nightmare in Rotterdam .

Increasing awareness

In 2010 he released his EP called The Flow . On March 20, 2011, he released his first album, entitled A Night of Madness . At the same time, this marks his 10 years of activity in the gabber scene. The release was followed by a worldwide tour. To mark the occasion, a music video of the same name was broadcast on March 23, 2011 on the official Traxtorm Records YouTube channel. The album was also well received by all Traxtorm artists. On October 10, 2011, Project Hardcore's official anthem, Dedicated to Your Project , written by Filippo and sung by MC Jeff, was released.

In September 2012, Traxtorm Records organized a competition for the remix of A Night Of Madness. Calcagni made samples and lunches available publicly and free of charge via his Soundcloud account, which helped hobby producers to compose their remixes. The two winners selected by Calcagni appeared in the new EP Agony , which was released on February 5, 2013. In 2012 Mad Dog participated in the 2012 Thrilogy with Zatox and Crypsis. On November 16, 2013, DJ Mad Dog released his second album Rudeness: Hardcore Beyond the Rules

At the beginning of July 2016, DJ Mad Dog started a new hardcore label called Dogfight Records with the other artists Unexist, Tears of Fury and AniMe. In early 2017, Mad Dog released his third studio album Till I Die , which contains 30 tracks.
