The Ponganis Icefall is a 1000 m high and 2 km wide glacial break on the east coast of Coulman Island in the Antarctic Ross Sea . It flows from the caldera of Hawkes Heights to Cape Main .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 2005 after the marine biologist Paul J. Ponganis (* 1950) from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography , who between 1987 and 2004 investigated the behavior and population development of the emperor penguins at Cape Crozier , Cape Washington , on the Beaufort , the Franklin Island and Coulman Island, as well as his wife Katherine Victoria Ponganis (* 1950), who was involved in five campaigns.
