The Hawkes Heights are an icy volcanic crater of 2000 m height, the southern part of Coulman Island in the Ross Sea off the Borchgrevink Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land dominates.
Participants in the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (1958-1959) named them after Captain William Michael Hawkes (1910-1994) of the United States Navy , who played a leading role in early air operations from McMurdo Station including the first landing at Geographic South Pole held.
