Deutsche Telekom IP backbone

As DTAG IPnet is the Internet - the backbone of Deutsche Telekom referred. The network core of this high-performance IP backbone currently consists of a total of 74 backbone nodes, of which ten nodes (core areas, core POP ) one 4 × 2.5 Gbit / s (10 Gbit / s), the remaining 64 network nodes (regional areas, Regio POP ) have at least a 155 Mbit / s connection. In order to be able to offer new functionalities, Deutsche Telekom decided in 2002 to expand the DTAG-IPnet and migrate to MPLS technology (Multiprotocol Label Switching) in order to increase the speed of data transmission. The changeover took place in close cooperation with Cisco Systems .
