After the MSX-1 models CPC-100 and CPC-200, this MSX-2 computer appeared in 1989. The device is operated by a Zilog Z80 A processor with a clock frequency of 3.58 MHz.

The computer has a video interface ( NTSC ) and an audio interface (mono). You can switch the display between black and white and color. The computer also has a cartridge port, a printer interface and a cassette recorder interface . The required mains voltage is either 110 V or 220 V at 50 Hertz and can be set using a switch on the underside of the computer.

Versions

The computer was manufactured in two versions: CPC-300 and CPC-300E . The CPC-300E was a slimmed-down version. The CPC-300 was also produced in a Korean and an international version. The Korean keyboard contains Hangul characters. The splash screen was changed compared to the MSX computer and "IQ 2000" is displayed in Hangeul.

The CPC-300 has 128 Kbytes of working memory and 128 Kbytes of graphics memory , a battery-powered clock and two joystick ports, as well as a light pen interface and comes with the built-in "MSX-TUTOR" program.

The CPC-300E is a weaker variant of the CPC-300. It only has 64 KB of RAM and does not have a battery-powered clock; the interfaces for the joystick and light pen are also missing.
