Ladies of Christian love

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The religious order of the Ladies of Christian Love or Ladies of Our Lady of Christian Love or Ladies of St. Michael was a French women's order founded by Father John (Jean) Eudes , a brother of the historian Francois Eudes de Mézeray (1610-1683) , was donated in Caen in 1640 .

The order was intended as a special veneration of the hearts of Jesus and Mary . Another concern was the conversion of women and girls with excessive lifestyles. Despite the admission and spiritual affection of the women in the religious houses, it was not possible to accept an order.

In 1651, the order was confirmed by Rome according to the so-called Augustinian rules . A revival of the order took place after the abolition in 1790 in 1807. The order experienced a greater spread in France from 1814 .

The religious clothing was white with a black veil. On the scapular was a silver heart with the virgin and baby Jesus. The image was surrounded by a wreath of roses and lilies.
