The street clock with dials on all four sides has a mechanical pendulum mechanism . This is driven by a paternoster and the weight of rotating balls. The balls are transported back upwards by a steam engine inside the clock. The low-pressure water vapor comes from the district heating system .

The mechanism of the clock consists of five steam pipes , the largest of which - in the middle of the structure - plays on the hour. The four other pipes play every fifteen minutes to Westminster chime ( Westminster Quarters ).
