Dampskibsselskabet TORM (TORM) is one of the largest shipping companies with headquarters in Hellerup, Denmark.

TORM owns and operates a fleet of tankers. The company's 80 or so product tankers transport gasoline, kerosene, naphtha and diesel, among other things.

history

TORM was founded in 1889 by Captain Ditlev Torm and Christian Schmiegelow. The shipping company has been listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange since 1905. Today the TORM share is listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen and NASDAQ in New York.

Business operations

TORM's operating business was formerly divided between product tankers and bulk carriers, with product tankers making up the majority of the operating business. In 2015, the last two bulk carriers in the fleet were sold.

Today TORM is a leading shipping company in the field of product tankers. The approximately 80 tankers in the TORM fleet transport petrol, kerosene, naphtha and diesel, among other things.

On June 8, 2007, A / S Dampskibsselskabet TORM (TORM) announced that TORM and TeekayCorporation (TEEKAY) have agreed to acquire OMI Corporation (OMI). OMI became a joint subsidiary of TORM and TEEKAY. As part of this takeover, TORM acquired 24 product tankers from OMI on August 1, 2007, increasing the size of the fleet to 85 tankers. Furthermore, the technical operation in India and parts of OMI's business in the USA were taken over.
