Daniel Loick

Daniel Loick (* 1977 ) is a German philosopher and social scientist. He is Professor of Political Philosophy and Social Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam . Loick is particularly concerned with the elaboration of a critical theory of law and state authority as well as forms of subaltern sociality.

Live and act

Daniel Loick studied philosophy, German and sociology at the Mercator University Duisburg and the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main between 1997 and 2005 . He then worked as a research assistant at Axel Honneth in Frankfurt and Rahel Jaeggi in Berlin. In 2010 he received his doctorate in Frankfurt with a thesis on the critical theory of sovereignty , which was published by Campus Verlag in 2012 as a critique of sovereignty . His habilitation with a thesis on social-philosophical legal criticism also took place in Frankfurt am Main in 2015 and was published under the title Juridism. Contours of a Critical Theory of Law 2017 at Suhrkamp.

Loick has taught and researched at numerous institutes in Germany, Switzerland and the USA, including Harvard University , the New School for Social Research and the Center for Humanities and Social Change at HU Berlin. Loick is an associate scientist at the Institute for Social Research . Since the beginning of 2020 he has been Associate Professor for "Political and Social Philosophy" at the Human Sciences Faculty of the University of Amsterdam.

His work focuses on legal and social philosophy as well as social theory. Loick's areas of work include legal criticism and police sociology . He is co-editor of the magazine for philosophical literature . Its publications aim to elaborate a critical theory of state and law based on critical theory , feminist theory and post-structuralism .
