Daniel Peralta-Salas

Daniel Peralta-Salas (* 1978 in Madrid ) is a Spanish mathematician who deals with dynamic systems , partial differential equations, differential geometry and their interactions.

Peralta-Salas studied physics and mathematics and received his doctorate in 2006 from the Universidad Complutense Madrid under Francisco González Gascón (Invariant Sets And First Integrals of Dynamical Systems). He conducts research at the Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT) in Madrid, a joint research institute of the three Madrid universities and the Spanish research organization CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas).

With Alberto Enciso (ICMAT) he proved a conjecture by Wladimir Arnold and Keith Moffatt about the existence of thin tubes of knotted vortex lines as stationary solutions of Euler's equations of fluid mechanics. And thus also answered a 150-year-old conjecture by Lord Kelvin (Arnold and Moffat formulated the problem more precisely within the topological theory of dynamic systems).

In 2013 he received a Starting Grant from the European Research Council . In 2016 he was plenary speaker at the European Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin (Existence of knotted vortex structures in stationary solutions of the Euler equations). With Enciso he received the Barcelona Dynamical Systems Prize in 2015 .
