Darmstadt Newspaper

The Darmstädter Zeitung was the official news paper of the Hessian state government for over 150 years. The newspaper originally appeared from January 1, 1777 under the title "Hessen-Darmstädtische Priviligierte Land-Zeitung". The title of the newspaper was changed several times in the following years. Since 1848 it has appeared under the title "Darmstädter Zeitung". On the instructions of Nazi Gauleiter Jakob Sprenger , the Darmstädter Zeitung ceased publication on March 30, 1935. The function as a government body was transferred to the National Socialist Hessische Landeszeitung , which was published by Ludwig Kichler (1887–1973) in the publishing house .
