In 1990 Darren Jay started working for the record label Tone Def Records . He later opened his own label Prime Time Wax and released ten singles on it , the most successful of which sold 20,000 times.
As A&R at MCA Music Jay was responsible for the compilations Total Science 1–3 and some mix albums on the Moonshine Music label .
In 1997 Darren Jay founded the drum and bass label Mecca . Among the releases were two top 20 hits.
In 2000 Jay started another label: Wide Open Music .
