In 1967 the Kornwestheim town council decided to convert the former “Koralle” cinema into a concert and theater house. This was opened in 1974. In October 2006, the building had to be closed due to exposure to asbestos. In May 2011, after a four-year planning phase, a combined building consisting of a city library and a cultural center was decided. The building was built according to the plans of the architectural office AP Plan Mory Osterwalder Vielmo Architekten- und Ingenieursgesellschaft mbH. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in November 2012. The culture and congress center Das K was opened in September 2013. It has 6,500 m² of usable space and offers eleven different room variations for 20 to 2,000 people. The construction costs amounted to 20.5 million euros.
