action

An elderly man is staying with an old friend. They're sitting in the drawing room and chatting. A burning log falls out of the fireplace. The visitor kicks the log back into the fireplace. Then he says that he once had a best friend. They were inseparable until the boyfriend got married. In the following years, the narrator was often invited to the couple. So he was with them one evening when the husband apologized due to official duties and left the guest and wife alone. The woman tried to seduce the visitor. When there was a physical approach on the sofa, a burning log fell out of the fireplace, whereupon the narrator jumped up and stepped it back into the fireplace. At that moment the husband entered. Without this unbelievable coincidence, he would have caught the two red-handed. In the following years, apparently at the instigation of his wife, the husband withdrew more and more from the narrator and finally hired him completely. The narrator was so shocked by this experience that he never married in his life.
