The DataFinder is free software for managing scientific and technical data, which was developed by the DLR simulation and software technology facility .

background

The task of the DataFinder is to mark the existing and newly generated, partly disordered, scientific data in a suitable way with meta information , to structure it and thus to create order. Another task of the DataFinder is the integration of the software applications involved in these work processes. To structure the data, the DataFinder offers the possibility of creating a freely definable data model in which the scientific and technical data is stored.

The data model can be freely specified by the DataFinder administrator. Furthermore, the software is based on open, flexible standards with future prospects such as XML and WebDAV . This means that the DataFinder can be easily expanded and flexibly adapted, among other things.

The DataFinder makes it possible to manage data in an efficient, structured and organized manner and thus make it easily accessible to every employee. Information about the data context is retained. The system is designed in such a way that it supports the user in his way of working - without restricting the flexibility and dynamics of the work processes required in scientific research too much.
