Disk insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Disk insurance is part of the electronics insurance , if that comes up disk will be destroyed or damaged. It also pays in the event of theft or looting or if data carriers are no longer readable. The data carrier insurance is to be seen as a separate insurance, but the conditions are closely based on the electronics insurance, more precisely on the general conditions for electronics insurance ABE, clause 010 data.

description

The subject of data carrier insurance is stored data . You are insured regardless of the data carrier on which they are stored. The data carrier insurance also determines what exactly is to be designated as data, namely:

  • Movement and master data from databases or files
  • Data based on standard programs or ready-to-use, individual programs

The data carriers themselves are also defined. They are data stores for machine-readable information. The prerequisite for this is interchangeability by the user. Data carriers are, for example, hard disks , CDs , magnetic tapes , floppy disks or magnetic disks that are used to store user data and to which he has legitimate access.

Scope of services

Insured risks

The data carrier insurance covers a damage event on the IT system on which the data was saved. In addition, data stored on a data carrier is insured. The insurance covers the loss, but also the no longer legibility due to a lightning strike. The data carrier insurance also covers damage and losses that occur during remote data transmission .

The data carrier insurance comes into effect if data and data carriers are lost:

  • theft
  • Burglary theft
  • robbery
  • plunder

In addition to the basic protection, there is the extended coverage, which is regulated by Clause 028. It also includes damage caused by deletion or modification that has arisen without damage to the hardware or the data carrier in the actually insured sense . Included are:

  • the incorrect operation
  • Computer viruses
  • willful manipulation by third parties, sabotage
  • electrostatic charges
  • Power failure
  • Force majeure
  • Over and under voltage
  • Failure, malfunction or damage to the IT system, the power supply, the air conditioning system and the data transmission system.

Data carriers with external data processors and those that are on the way between the insurance location and an external data processing facility can be insured with additional cover.

Uninsured risks

The data carrier insurance does not cover damage resulting from

  • Programs or data that have been obsolete, changed, or improved
  • Errors caused by unauthorized programs, i.e. pirated copies
  • incorrectly recorded data that must be corrected
  • Failure to comply with manufacturer information and the resulting errors
  • Errors in the course of converting application software to new software

In addition, the following are excluded from insurance cover:

  • Damage caused by normal or premature wear and tear
  • Consequential damage to property
  • Damage caused by intent, war or earthquake

Sum insured and scope of benefits

The amount of the sum insured is based on the one hand on the material value of the data carrier that enables replacement. On the other hand, the costs for the replacement and re-entry of the data and possibly program data must be taken into account.

The scope of services of the data carrier insurance extends to data that is in the permanent establishment or in outsourcing locations as well as to the data transport.

There is no insurance cover for data held by external data processors. This also applies to data transport between the place of insurance and external data processing facilities. If so desired, however, the insurance cover can be extended to, for example, the transport of data carriers to suppliers , banks or customers.

providers

Data carrier insurance is usually offered as part of electronics insurance, IT liability insurance or technical insurance; a pure form does not exist. Almost all large and various smaller insurance groups belong to the selling companies.

Obligations

The policyholder undertakes to take certain measures to minimize risk. He is contractually obliged to operate an adequate data backup and to comply with the manufacturer's instructions and regulations with regard to the maintenance and care of the data carriers and hardware. If he does not adhere to these guidelines, he must expect a reduction or rejection of compensation in the event of damage. Specifically, the policyholder undertakes to back up data at least once a week. The type and scope of data backup have a significant impact on the premium level for data carrier insurance. If the customer makes use of the extended coverage, he is required to use virus protection programs .

Premium amount and deductible

The premium amount for the data carrier insurance is calculated in connection with the sum insured, the agreed deductible and the internal security management. The amount of the deductible can be agreed individually.
