Permanent camping
Long-term camping is the use of a mostly larger caravan or - less often - the mobile home like a holiday home .
The permanent camper rents a pitch and the associated services on a campsite for a longer period of time (usually for at least one year).
Forms of permanent camping
use
The characteristics of permanent camping are very different. They range from permanently erected, unfit caravans or mobile homes with permanent attachments, front structures and superstructures, front gardens with fences and garden gnomes to travel campers who have only rented a parking space permanently because they need a parking space for their vehicle outside of the holiday season anyway and then use it like a holiday home on weekends. All intermediate forms are encountered.
Seasonal camping is a popular form of long-term camping. Here is a parking space for a longer period - z. B. three months - rented. During this time, part of the family lives on the campsite, while the working relatives come in the evening or only at the weekend, depending on the distance from their home.
A special form of permanent camping is permanent residence on a campsite. The reasons people give for a way of life with permanent camping include closeness to nature and independence, for some also strokes of fate, an unsuccessful apartment search or unemployment play a role. For pensioners are u. a. low cost, sociability and extensive accessibility are important.
In Germany, almost 650,000 parking spaces for permanent campers are statistically recorded, but how many people live this way is not known.
restrictions
Some campsites cannot be used all year round, e.g. B. due to the risk of flooding on large rivers, so that only seasonal camping is possible there. The length of the season is usually 8 or 9 months a year.
In many cases, local regulations restrict the design of the rented parking space with permanent additions, fences and the like, so that at first glance these places or parts of the space hardly differ from campsites for tourist camping.
Some permanent campsites only rent to permanent campers, others also accept a limited number of travel campers. Conversely, many campsites designed for tourism rent out part of their pitches permanently.
Situation in individual countries
Germany
Use as a main residence - although sometimes tolerated - is generally not permitted.
There are also campsites where you can register your main residence. However, this is tied to certain conditions, e.g. B. the presence of electricity, mailboxes, fresh water and sewers on the pitch. The respective municipality must agree to the use.
In some respects, long-term camping is legally equated with a holiday home (e.g. obligation to pay radio fees , the possibility of collecting taxes for a second home , etc.). Sales tax does not apply to the rental space if it is used for at least six months.
