history

After the success of the Decauville Railway at the Paris World Exhibition (1889) , the Belgian branch of the French company Decauville from Corbeil-Essonnes exhibited the Montania motor locomotives it had sold at the 1913 World Exhibition in Ghent .

Routing

The route passed the following stations, among others:

  • Palace of Fine Arts
  • Ville de Paris
  • Delhaize Freres & Cie ‹Le Leon›
  • Modern village
  • Rue Belvedere
  • Chateau d'eau

The depot was located between the modern village and the sports fields.

business

Eight 'Montania' locomotives from the Paris branch of Orenstein & Koppel and Arthur Koppel were used on the temporarily relocated route. They could run on benzene, gasoline, alcohol, or petroleum. On the side of the engine cover, they had a discreet lettering from the company 'Decauville', which was responsible for sales of these in Belgium.

The operation was carried out by a 24-person team of 10 train drivers, 12 uniformed conductors, a white-clad railway attendant and the transport service provider.
