The Dechencholing Palace ( Dzongkha : བདེ་ ཆེན་ ཆོས་ གླིང་ ) is the official main palace of the King of Bhutan . It is seven kilometers north of the Bhutanese capital Thimphu .

The Dechencholing Palace was built from 1952 to 1953 after the coronation of the third king Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and in memory of his father Jigme Wangchuck . On November 11, 1955, the fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck was born here.

The palace has not been used as a residential palace since the fifth king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck took office in 2006. It is primarily available for representative purposes and serves, among other things, as accommodation for Indian delegations.

The current royal palace is the Samteling palace .
