Deils Wood , also Deil's Wood , is a probably Bronze Age cairn in the grove of the same name in the Scottish council area of East Renfrewshire . description

Cairns were established from the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age between 3000 to 1000 BC. Created. When the Deils Cairn was built has not been investigated. It is one of a group of 14 similar facilities within four kilometers southeast of Newton Mearns . The Deils Cairn is located on the top of a slight hill at a height of 285 m. In 1865 it was first classified as a tumulus and only called a cairn at the beginning of the 20th century. Due to the former name of the forest as Castlehill Wood , it was also suggested in the 1950s that it could be a moth .

Depending on the source, the diameter of the stone mound is between 20 m and 24 m. The height is between 1.8 m and 3.1 m. Today it is covered by a layer of earth and made up of trees. In the middle there are two depressions that indicate a fault in the system. However, it is relatively well preserved and largely untouched. When planning the route of the A726 , which connects East Kilbride to the M77 , the location of the Cairns was taken into account. Just like the Humbie Road between Eaglesham and Newton Mearns, it runs right past Deils Wood. The cairn has not yet been subjected to a detailed archaeological investigation.
