Delta Radio (Netherlands)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Delta Radio is the name of an unrealized radio project in the long wave range in the Netherlands .

Delta Radio planned to transmit from the Netherlands on the long wave frequency 171 kHz towards Great Britain . For this purpose, a corresponding transmission system should be built either on the area of the Kootwijk coastal radio station or in the North Sea , the transmission masts of which - depending on the plan - should be 412 meters high. A transmission power of up to 10 megawatts was planned. This would have made the Delta Radio transmitter the most powerful radio transmitter on earth.

Due to numerous protests by environmentalists, the plans for the high-power long-wave transmitter were discontinued in mid-2004. However, implementation by another operator would still be possible in principle in the future.
