Demagnetize (from the English demagnetize = demagnetize), or Clydesdale , is said to have been a secret operation in Italy from 1952. The aim of the operation should be to reduce the growing influence of the communist parties in the country in order to avert a seizure of power through electoral victories. To this end, the influence of the communist parties in the Italian government and especially on the trade unions should be reduced, as it was feared that the KPI could secure a large share of the vote in the late 1940s and early 1950s. A similar action in France was Cloven .
