Democratic People's Liberation Front

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Democratic People's Liberation Front ( DPLF , Tamil ஜனநாயக மக்கள் விடுதலை முன்னணி , " Democratic People's Liberation Front ") is a registered political party in Sri Lanka founded in 1988 . It is the political arm of the People's Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE).

history

The DPLF was founded by the PLOTE after the latter had lost a large part of its leadership cadre in previous years due to the actions of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Ideologically, the DPLF represented the positions of the PLOTE - a Tamil nationalism, as well as a Marxist-Leninist conception of politics. The DPLF took part in parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka several times. In 1989 she ran for election in the Nuwara Eliya and Jaffna constituencies and won 0.33% of the vote nationwide. In the 1994 election, the DPLF entered a coalition with EROS and TELO . The DPLF ran for election only in the constituency of Vanni, where it won 11,567 votes (27.4%) and three seats (nationwide share 0.15%). In the following elections, the DPLF ran alone again and won no further mandate, except in the 2001 election , where a candidate in the Vanni constituency was successful. The political weight of the DPLF decreased practically continuously.
