Monument to Frederick the Great 1936

The monument to Frederick the Great was a monument in the Upper Silesian city of Opole (today: Opole ) in honor of the Prussian King Frederick II. It stood on the south side of the Opole ring at the town hall .

history

The design of the monument dates back to 1862 by Eduard Uhlenhuth . The zinc figure was cast in Gleiwitz in 1933 . The monument was then erected in 1936 on Oppelner Ring in front of the new extension of the town hall. It depicts the king in an upright position with his walking stick.

At the end of the Second World War , the statue was dismantled by Soviet soldiers on April 6, 1945 and thrown into the Mühlgraben , a branch of the Oder. The base stood in the same place for several years and was only removed later. There is nothing left at this point.
