Monument to the Union of Lublin
The monument of the Union of Lublin stands on the Lithuanian Square in Lublin in Poland . It was built by order of Stanisław Staszic and was unveiled on August 26, 1828. It is intended to commemorate the Union of Lublin in 1569 under King Sigismund II August .
history
The first monument was erected immediately after the signing of the Union of Lublin and was located in the center of the Lithuanian Square. It was shaped like a small stone obelisk with two figures on the side. The two characters should embody Poland and Lithuania . When the Lithuanian Square was converted into a Parade Square in 1819 , the monument was damaged and removed. On behalf of Stanisław Staszics, the construction of a new monument began in 1824. The new obelisk was cast from steel plates in the Samsonów foundry. The new monument was erected in the east of the square on a small hill. As with the previous memorial, this memorial also has a relief on the base of two figures with handshakes. The relief was designed in agreement with Prof. Pawel Maliński, a student of Bertel Thorvaldsen .

The obelisk is 13 meters high and is located on a brick base, which is clad with granite slabs.
Renovations
A major renovation took place in 1999 on the 430th anniversary of the Union of Lublin. In 2008 the monument was repaired again, the foundations reinforced and damaged elements replaced. The area around the monument has also been restored to its condition in 1860, as has been handed down on drawings by Adam Lerue .
