The Depot 5 is a transport museum in Mannheim .

Geographical location

The museum is located on one floor of an administration building, the "Red Ox", which belongs to the tram depot on Möhlstrasse.

history

The museum is sponsored by FTM-Depot 5 Mannheim e. V. The association was founded in 1985 and has been recognized as a leisure group by the Mannheim transport company at the time since 1986 . In 2003 the association opened the museum. Today the rooms are provided by Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH. The museum sees itself as a museum of the transport company.

collection

The collection extends over time to testimonies from the history of rail-bound local public transport from the Rhine-Neckar area . The focus is on the history of the railways in Mannheim ( horse tram , tram Mannheim , OEG ). There is a presentation on the Aerobus that drove to the Federal Garden Show in Mannheim in 1975 , and models of tram vehicles from the aforementioned transport companies from different eras are shown on a small LGB layout . In terms of content, the collection includes archives , plans and photographs as well as small items from the factory, but not vehicles.

Cooperations

In cooperation with the transport companies, the museum participates in presentations at major events. The sponsoring association is a member of the Historical Local Transport Working Group .
