The ivory tower is a 1965 first published science fiction - novel of the Austrian writer Herbert W. Franke .

The ivory tower tells the story of a group of rebels who fought a world state that was perfected in the uncertain future and, in an attempt to overthrow the world government based on the moon, were forced into a community with a group of scientists. Initially hostile to one another, they ultimately discover their common drive to find social meaning in their lives. In the dialogues there are many philosophical thought games that are integrated into the plot. After failure on the obvious path, the group consistently pursues its search for meaning up to and including giving up on itself.
The "science" in fiction here refers more to the humanities; As far as the development of technology is concerned, the novel essentially remains in what was already known in the 1960s. Today, therefore, the reader might find it a bit strange to come across punch cards in a future world .
