The last day of youth (original title: Il ricordo della Basca ) is a thematic linked collection of eleven stories by the Italian writer Antonio Delfini , which was published in 1938 and in 1987 in a German translation by Marianne Schneider.

action

In the volume, the author tells from the perspective of the passionate café visitor , always unhappy in love and punished with an overly critical eye, of his never-abandoned environment in his native Modena . As in all of his stories, it becomes a refuge for memories and unfulfilled longings. However, all of his characters also relate to himself - to his self-image as a failed bourgeois existence, his constant status as a lover and the missed opportunities of a dreamy, enthusiastic life.
