The tired man

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The tired man ( Danish : "Den Trætte Mand" ) is a designer armchair from 1935, which was designed by the Danish designer and architect Flemming Lassen (1902–1984).

development

Lassen created the upholstered armchair “The tired man” for the competition of the Copenhagen carpenter's guild in 1935. Its organic, bear-like shape and the voluminous armrests are characteristic of the designer armchair . In his architectural career, Flemming Lassen was known for its straight lines, but the armchair should be a personal retreat. You feel "as warm and safe as a polar bear baby in its mother's arms on the ice sheet".

For a long time the armchair was considered a design classic, in 2014 it was re-produced as a replica. In October 2014, one of the original armchairs reached a new record at the auction of the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen, making it the most expensive armchair of all time sold in Denmark.
