Derdas I. of Elimiotis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Derdas I ( Greek  Δέρδας ), son of Arrhidaios, was a prince of the Upper Macedonian landscape of Elimiotis in the 5th century BC.

In 433 BC In BC Derdas allied himself with the Macedonian prince Philip to fight his brother King Perdiccas II. In the following year he took part with his brothers in the victory of Athens in the battle of Potidaia against Macedonia. From the year 422 BC In BC Derdas seems to have made his peace with Perdiccas II, in any case he appears as a documentary witness of a treaty between the king and Athens from this period.

The father's name ( patronymic ) of Derdas is recorded in a Scholion for Thucydides 1, 57, 3, as he is also referred to there as "nephew of Perdiccas [II.]". It is unclear whether this relationship existed on the paternal or maternal side. In the former case, the Princely House of Elimiotis would have formed a side branch of the Argeads .

His son was probably Sirras .
