Dermabrasion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dermabrasion is a mechanical method for the abrasion of skin . It can be used in the following cases:

Dermabrasion cannot be used on skin that is too thin (e.g. around the eyelids). In the case of extensive burns and very bulging scars, this treatment does not promise any success.

The procedure takes place under local anesthesia with an additional twilight anesthetic . It can also be performed under general anesthesia.

Only the top layer of skin is removed with a special grinding instrument. Layers of skin underneath are retained. After the treatment, the wound healing is supported by the application of a drug that binds to the wound secretion. After about eight to ten days, the scab will loosen. The scab should never be removed.

The skin is reddened for the first three to six months after treatment. During this time, the patient should avoid exposure to the sun.
