The German-French Cultural Institute Aachen (DFKI) is an element of French cultural presence in the Aachen region . The institute has set itself the task of contributing to the spread of the French language and culture in Aachen and the surrounding area as an institutional link between Germany and France . It has its administrative headquarters at Lothringerstraße 62 in Aachen.

As a meeting place for Germans and French, the DFKI is part of the network of French cultural institutions in Germany . It offers cultural events and French courses, as well as advice on France, French culture and the French language.

In the language department of the DFKI with a wide range of language courses , trained lecturers, whose mother tongue is French, teach around 900 course participants a year in a wide variety of language courses. In addition to courses for all age and ability levels, the DFKI offers specific target group-oriented courses. The offer is aimed at pre-school children (with and without knowledge of French) who are introduced to the French language in a playful way. In turn, the DFKI offers employees and companies, in cooperation with the Aachen Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), courses and special courses (“French for work”).

In addition, the DFKI is the examination center for the internationally recognized language certificates DELF ( Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française ) and DALF ( Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française ), whose exams are held annually in cooperation with 56 schools in the region with more than 1100 participants.

The institute's extensive cultural program, with up to 60 cultural events per year, provides information on current France in the areas of society, politics, economy, language, art, film and literature.

A wide range of readings, lectures, concerts, exhibitions and film screenings bring visitors closer to the culture of the neighboring country and shed light on the Franco-German relationship in a European context. The events mainly take place in the garden hall, the jewel of the House of Matthéy , in which the DFKI is located, but also in cooperation with theaters, cinemas, museums, galleries, universities and schools.
