German-South African Lawyers Association

The German-South African Lawyers Association (short DSJV , Engl .: German-South African Lawyers Association, GSLA ) is a registered association under German law, based in Nuremberg , the bilateral to care concerns of lawyers with particular interest to South African and German legal issues is open. The association, founded in 1991, has around 200 members. The DSJV sees its target group in people from South Africa and Germany who are connected to the respective other legal system through studies or professional activity.

organization

The DSJV board currently consists of six people. These are Rüdiger Dorobek (chairman), Philip Küpper (vice chairman), Raphael van de Sand ( Stellenbosch ), Annekatrin Mehle , Renate Hertenberger and Viola Wilke . There is a scientific advisory board to advise and support the DSJV in achieving the association's goals. Its members are Joachim Herrmann (former University of Augsburg ), Reinhard Zimmermann ( MPI for Comparative and International Private Law ) and Jacques E. du Plessis ( University of Stellenbosch ). The association was registered in Hamburg in the register of associations (AG, VR 18696).

aims

The aim of the DSJV is to create permanent professional and personal contacts between lawyers from both countries and to promote exchange on a scientific and professional level. In addition, the DSJV disseminates political opinions on German government policy and international issues. The objectives of the DSJV include deepening and disseminating knowledge of German law in South Africa and South African law in Germany. Support for studies and scientific work with the aforementioned objective, scientific cooperation with associations, institutes and organizations with similar areas of interest, the promotion of vocational training for young lawyers from both areas of law, and the promotion of intellectual and personal exchange between those who work in practice are also promoted Lawyers from both countries and assistance in answering questions about South African law by arranging contacts.

activities

In addition to the annual general meeting, events related to the goals of the association are held at irregular intervals at regional and supraregional level and third-party events of this kind are taken part. In addition, the DSJV endeavors to maintain and expand contacts with associations and organizations with a German-South African connection. The DSJV sees itself as an information and contact basis for its members. One focus is the DSJV's website with an extensive collection of legal links and a literature database. The DSJV is a partner of the Alliance for German Law .

The DSJV newsletter, which is usually published four times a year, is used for the publication of technical and other articles related to the purposes of the DSJV and as a communication organ.
